Michael L. Oakes
Attorney Michael L. Oakes founded Oakes Law Group in 2006. A highly experienced Criminal Defense Attorney, he has even argued a case in front of the Michigan Supreme Court — a rare distinction that speaks to the level of advocacy he brings to every client.
He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Jackson State University, where he received his undergraduate degree in Political Science. He went on to graduate Cum Laude from Michigan State University School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctorate.
Attorney Oakes is a proud product of Muskegon Heights High School, where he was born and raised — and that hometown commitment to the people of Michigan is the foundation of everything Oakes Law Group does today.

Barb is the firm's paralegal — the steady hand behind every motion, deadline, and case file at Oakes Law Group. With sharp organization and a deep understanding of court procedure, she keeps every case moving and every detail accounted for.
Natalie Borrego is a Legal Assistant at Oakes Law Group, PLLC, and the main contact for clients to schedule appointments, ask questions, and navigate our processes. With over 10 years in the legal field, Natalie has developed a genuine love for the law and the clientele she serves.
She personifies patience, compassion, and understanding when assisting clients — and she knows firsthand how difficult and frustrating the legal arena can feel. Natalie is also a cancer survivor, and actively participates in fundraising for Breast Cancer Awareness, walking in the Breast Cancer Walk every October to share her story and offer encouragement to other survivors.
Family is everything to Natalie. In her free time, you'll find her spending time with loved ones — especially playing with and spoiling her great-nieces — or out shopping and hunting for the perfect bargain.
